Me acuerdo cuando estaba creciendo que mi mamá y mi papá, como quién dice, Domingo por Domingo salían a su junta. Ellos decían que habían ido a la junta de la merced. No explicaban mucho de qué se trataba, pero yo sabía que era bastante importante para ellos porque nunca faltaban a su junta. Cuando alguna cosa pasaba en la comunidad ellos siempre estaban listos para luchar a contra ello, ya fueran los derechos de la tierra, los derechos de las aguas, o de tener ganado, lo que fuera. Yo me daba cuenta de la importancia de mantener nuestras tierras libres. Porque de la tierra vivíamos y seguimos viviendo. Teniendo las tierras no tienes que apurarte de nada porque de ellas puedes vivir. Ya sea que fueran a sacar leña, a pastear animales, o a sembrar, podían producirlo de la tierra.
I remember when I was growing up my mother and father would go every, as they say, Sunday after Sunday to a meeting. They would say that they were going to the mut I knew it was important to them, they never missed it. When anything happened in the community they were always ready to fight for their rights to the land, the water rights or the right to graze cattle, or whatever. I saw the importance of having our lands free. Becaeeting of la merced (the land grant). They didn't explain much what was going on buse we lived off our land and we still do. Having land you don't have to worry about anything because you can make a living with it, whether it's for getting firewood, or grazing, planting, they could produce it from the land.
