Mamá trajo la industria del tejido (a Cundiyo) desde Río Chiquito. Ella era la administradora de la estafeta y también manejaba le tienda. Esto nos dió suficiente dinero como para ir a la escuela. Hubo (escuela) para las niñas y para el único niño (de la familia). Todas las niñas fueron a la Academia Loreto y el niño, al colegio Saint Michael.
Mi madre fue la administradora de la estafeta durante treinta y siete años; y tuvimos la tienda por casi cuarenta. Esta fue la razón para que obtuviéramos (el primer) teléfono aquí a principios de los veintes. Era un teléfono del servicio forestal que llegó por las montañas. De todos estos pequeños pueblos Cundiyo, Río en Medio, Córdoba y Truchas fueron los únicos que tuvieron teléfono.
Mother brought the weaving industry (to Cundiyo) from Rio Chiquito. She was the postmistress and also ran the store. This gave us enough money to go to school. There were (schools) for the girls and for the one boy. All the girls went to Loreto Academy and the boy went to Saint Michael's College.
My mother was postmistress for about thirty seven years and we had the store for about forty years. This was instrumental in us getting (the first) telephone here in the early 1920's. It was a Forest Service phone that came through the mountains. In all these little villages Cundiyo, Río en Medio, Córdoba and Truchas were the only ones that had telephone.
